X-Message-Number: 3918 Date: 27 Feb 95 16:49:11 EST From: Paul Wakfer <> Subject: CRYONICS.SCI CryoSpan Cooling Rate Info Note: Although this message was sent completely separate from another with subject Cryonics Talk, the 2 messages somehow got garbled with the end of this appearing at the end of the other. Here is the second message as it should have appeared. Since its formation CryoSpan has performed the cooldown of 2 neuro patients from dry ice (-79xC) to liquid nitrogen temperature (-196xC). The rate of cooling chosen for these patients was based on the best knowledge and experience available to CryoSpan from its directors, officers and consultants, including cooling methods and rates which had been published in Cryonics and elsewhere. ACS patient Jerry White was cooled down about a year ago over a period of 12 days. At no time did Jerry's rate of cooling exceed 1 degree Celsius per hour. ACS patient Margaret Bradshaw was cooled down just recently between January 17, 1995 and February 15, 1995. At no time did Margaret's rate of cooling exceed 0.6 degree Celsius per hour. Both of these patients now reside in CryoSpan's stable, securely locked, and continuously computer-monitored neuro dewar. Within a couple of months, as soon as they are ready, all of CryoSpan's patients will be transferred its new earthquake, fire, flood and bullet proof, below ground vaults.
