To Mr. Clark:

Come on now! Two objects can perfectly well agree without the existence of a
convention. What Zimov said had a lot of sense. The structure of our brains
and the design of neurons was not established by a group of actors getting
together and deciding that it should be so and so. Nor was the law of gravity,
nor space-time, nor the spectrum of the Sun.

If you wish you may continue to use your definition of symbol. Please though,
remember that I am not. And I shall substitute "object" for every time you
use that word. If what you say makes sense, great. If what you say sounds
nonsensical with that substitution, then that may tell you something. And of

course, you may wish to modify your definition. We are free agents. We are also,
I hope, trying to communicate with one another.

			Best and long long life,

				Thomas
