Re: uploading

A bit of poetry for those who want to be uploaded:

"Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy emperor awake
Or sit upon a golden bough to sing
Of what is past, or passing, or to come."

No, I didn't write it, of course. I will be frank, though, about one point. One
thing that bothers me about the whole notion of uploading is that it fits in
with far too much mythology, Christianity included. At the time of the poem,
it was gold. Now, of course, I hear tell of diamond. If someone told me
one day that he seriously wanted to be uploaded into a creature made of, say,
soap bubbles, or even dog turds, I would listen to his reasons far more
carefully.
