The OBSOLESCENCE of SLEEP

Mac Tonnies

One factor I hope future cryonics technicians take into
account when upgrading thawed suspension patients is the
horrifying waste of time popularly known as sleep.

I am appalled to think of the enormous fraction of my life
spent while unconscious, and cannot help wondering about
my productivity in a world where sleep (in the traditional
sense) was unneeded...perhaps even regarded as a laughable
             eccentricity.

Can someone please identify the major gene coding sequences
that make sleep essential to human beings? If so, I wonder
if I am alone in wanting to eradicate the sleep-mechanism
             entirely.

I am well aware of the need for REM feedback, but believe
this can be compensated by neuro-uplinked software.

And, of course, a mechanical upload would certainly have no
need for sleep, if its power supply was sufficient.

Thanks. I'll probably go to sleep in an hour or two.
