Subject: SCI.CRYONICS <Lost in Space> MAC TONNIES

from Mac Tonnies

The posts responding to "cryonics in space" were both very good. Every-
thing that was said was perfectly valid.

In my defense, I didn't take the proposal as seriously as my post
    suggested,and I suppose I wrote it in a bleak mood. Yesterday's Oklahoma
    explosion
illustrates some of the frustration I feel when considering permanence here on
Earth. The space-idea was more thought experiment than anything else, and the

responses showed that it was effective (at least in arousing contemporary
logic).
Certainly it makes more sense to store cryonics patients on Earth, where
we can stand ready with revival technologies. But it's naive to think that
a few eccentrics might find it more romantic to be cast into the abyss after
death. Such an act could sway public attitudes away from ground-based suspen-
sion (or, depending on the social climate, strengthen belief that Earth is
indeed the best place for serious cryo-suspension).
I still believe that today's cryonicists (or their future equivelants)
will have to deal with the idea of space-based cryostasis.
Again, thanks for the replies, and I apologize for coming across as an
imbecile.

                                                       Mac Tonnies
