Date: 26 Apr 1995 06:36:40 GMT Message-ID: <3nkplo$> hi...anyone ever try using a very high magnetic field to polarize water molecules at moment of vitrification to prevent destructive random/opposing oriented ice crystal seeds...sounds like cryo-protective proteins/chemicals/snake-oils just aren't cutting it...distribution of it evenly and over all vital areas seems problematic...not to mention ill effects on the biological system by the agents themselves...would be interested in hearing a calculation on the magnitude of power it would take to produce that field strength (over about a human-sized cylindrical suspension vat)...as for the thaw, with any luck at some point in the future methods would be available to minimize thermal runaway...guess a big reason for there being research on this subject at all (and a newsgroup) is that there're a lot of people extremely unhappy with 1995...i'd love to be able to see beyond my years...slight element of risk could be overlooked with this alternative of being doomed to live out the remainder of my life here in the dark ages...god knows i could use the sleep anyway.
