X-Message-Number: 456 From: Kevin Q. Brown Subject: Reference & Introductory Messages Date: 19 Sep 1991 Subject: CRYONICS Reference & Introductory Messages Some of the cryonics mailing list messages remain useful long after they are posted. Others, even though they may be well-written and well reasoned, are strictly topical or are part of a discussion distributed across several messages. I just quickly scanned the archives of the cryonics mailing list for examples of good reference information, in particular, information that would be useful for people new to cryonics. Appended below is my first draft of such a list. A cursory glance at this list should show my bias; I tend to like my own postings! # LINES/CHARS DATE AUTHOR / SUBJECT - ----------------------- ---------------- 50 38/2311 Dec 29, 1988 Brown / Death of Death in Cryonics 157 172/10405 Feb 12, 1990 Bridge / Introduction to Cryonics (Revised) 286 229/9087 Mar 19, 1991 Brown / Cryonics Organization List (Revised) 351 37/1317 Jun 17, 1991 Hixon / Cryonics : Reaching For Tomorrow 431 119/6907 Sep 8, 1991 Brown/Jellinghaus / Unbounding the Future If you would like to see other messages or other topics on this list, then let's hear from you! In particular, we could use a good message on using life insurance for funding cryonic suspension. Several messages have mentioned aspects of this, what to look for and what to watch out for, but we have no single, up-to-date reference message that covers it all. (Of course, inflation and tax resistant alternatives to funding with life insurance would be useful, too.) An update to the Oct. 10, 1988 message #28 on "theories of aging" would be useful. Finally, I listed message #50, my treatment of Brian Wowk's essay on the "Death of Death in Cryonics" because I believe that the concept it presents is important. My rendition of it is not necessarily the best, though, so if Brian Wowk (or someone else) would like to write an update, then that would be appreciated. Oh yes, if you want to receive a copy of one or more of these messages, just let me know. Sending an email message to me with a subject line of the form: CRYOMSG xxx yyy ... zzz where "xxx", "yyy", and "zzz" are message numbers will either result in them being sent to you automatically (if the software is behaving) or, failing that, telling me that you want me to send them to you.
