X-Message-Number: 4602 Date: 03 Jul 95 14:46:02 EDT From: Jim Davidson <> Subject: Creation "science" Peter Merel makes the point, "Slowly the more nonsensical religions die back. Very few take Apollo or the nymphs seriously any more - even the most ardent creationists don't want those myths taught in schools." Indeed they do not. The creation "science" devotees who I knew as a youth growing up in small-town Kansas were not interested in the Hindu legends of Earth formation, nor any of the other ideas popular today with large segments of the Earth's population, or popular long ago with Egyptians, Greeks, or Chinese. Their interest was in having the "revealed word of God" as expressed in _The Holy Bible_ (King James, if you please) taught in schools. A few of the less mentally disturbed creationists I knew were willing to concede that creation "science" should be taught on equal footing with evolutionary biology. When I, in my devilish manner, would point out that spontaneous creation and "phlogiston" were already taught in many basic science classes as poor explanations for certain facts, these otherwise reasonable folks would rush back to the extreme.
