X-Message-Number: 4611 From: Peter Merel <> Subject: CRYONICS gui advocacy Date: Thu, 6 Jul 1995 10:36:52 +1000 (EST) David Stodolsky includes a pro-mac article by Cary Lu. Speaking as someone who's been paid to program under MacOS, windoze, os/2 and a lot of unixes, I have to say: Macs vs. PCs? They'll both run Linux, so who cares? MacOS and windoze are both braindead compared with a well configured Linux box, so mac and windoze "power users" are barking up the wrong tree. Linux is too much for a novice, but luckily there's an excellent alternative: GEOS, from geoworks. GEOS is extremely inexpensive, lightweight and includes everything you could ever want for everyday computing uses, up to and including a great integrated desktop-publishing package. It's so light on cpu and disk that it runs on a PDA, it's much more user-friendly than either macs or windozes, and it's easy to integrate with Linux if you want to scale up. Now the other camp that get involved in these advocacy wars are the utopians, so we better satisfy them too: The ultimate 2.5D gui is/will be .... GnuStep, FSF's implementation of the Next interface. About as groovy as you can get without VR. Now shall we get back to corpsicles? Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=4611
