There was a report on the PRO-MED list that a team in Zaire has been able
to greatly increase the survival rate in Ebola victims simply by injecting
them with serum taken from those who survived naturally. I forget the exact
stats, but it raised the survival rate to something like 90%. So it sounds
like this plague, at least, is manageable.
