The poster I was replying to with my hypothermic neurosurgery
analogy was (in my interpretation) laboring under the common
misconception that metabolic arrest is some magical event during
which the soul departs, leaving only a "shell" behind. Of course
cryonics as practiced today is more than just metabolic arrest.
(It is metabolic arrest + major injury with uncertain impact on
critical memory structures.) However you can't debate the real
(and often subtle) issues of cryonics with someone who is still
stuck on square one.
