Date: Sun, 22 Oct 1995 00:44:58 +1000 (EST) Mike Darwin has gone to considerable trouble to respond to me, though I guess that a lot of what he says he'd planned to say to whoever was first in line. I've already conceded the need for testing, and I share Ken Stone's qualms about harvesting prisoners, though I'm not certain that something couldn't be worked out under some sort of arrangement that prevented excesses - but just what sort of arrangement could do that escapes me. The issue then comes down to a personal choice - do you think that Darwin is likely to do more harm by taking his "pound of flesh" than would be offset by the benefits of his expertise and devotion to the work? I've seen Mike write a lot of half-assed stuff in this forum, but I've never heard anyone question his skill or his intensity of purpose. For what it's worth, and given that I haven't signed yet it isn't worth a lot, I'd rather have Darwin suspend me - I like his reputation and I like his attitude. Anyway, with all the crap that's in my skull, what's the odds that that microlitre is going to be something I'd miss? It must be many millions of times more likely that it would be an episode of Columbo or an ad for feminine hygene products than that it would be a memory of my loved ones or the ability to write poetry ...
