X-Message-Number: 5420 From: (Brian Wowk) Newsgroups: sci.cryonics Subject: RFD sci.life-extension.cryonics Date: 13 Dec 95 19:46:40 GMT Message-ID: <> In reply to an RFD for sci.life-extension.smartdrugs, Brian M. Delaney suggested that sci.cryonics become sci.life-extension.cryonics. (Neither of these posts appeared at my Usenet site, however Brian's post was forwarded to CryoNet, which is where I saw it.) I think the topic of cryonics is sufficiently unique that it should remain a second-level newsgroup. Moreover, second-level newsgroup status gives cryonics a prestige and visibility that it simply would not have as a subgroup of sci.life-extension. sci.cryonics (the creation of which would be virtually impossible today) owes its existence as a second level newsgroup to visionaries like Kevin Brown, who initiated the RFD for sci.cryonics back in the days when the Internet was 0.1% as popular as it is today. I think it is entirely appropriate that this foresight be rewarded by the continued existence of sci.cryonics as a highly-visible second-level newsgroup. I urge all those netfolk who believe cryonics (and the continued growth of cryonics) to be important to actively oppose any proposal to move this newsgroup under the sci.life-extension heirarchy. ---Brian Wowk Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=5420
