Alcor and CI both have members in the UK. CI have their patients handled by an undertaker, Barry Dyer of Albins, whilst Alcor has a fair sized group of local members and, if needed, will send people out from the States. Here I must lay may cards on the table and own up to being a long time member of Alcor. One of the reasons I was first attracted to Alcor was that no one could be a director unless they were signed up for suspension - I feel better about trusting myself to cryonicists than to people who consider me dead. Over here we have the only cryonic suspension facility outside the US. I say "only" because not only do we have an operating theatre but also we can freeze patients here before transport. I understand CI plans to ship at a much higher temperature. Another reason I was attracted to Alcor was the higher tech approach taken. Somewhere between being a fully functioning human and being a handful of dust there must be a border between being ultimately repairable and utimately unrepairable. Unfortunately the border is hard to see. I feel it is better to play safe when the other side of the border is "the undiscovered country". By the way, I don't want to be too hard on undertakers since we have one affiliated. It is just that our worst case scenario is no worse than CI's average (or even best). In favour of CI, they have very low prices. (There are, of course, counter arguements to this, but I've probably attracted enough flame as it is.) Oh yes, one more thing. Alcor members are getting together at the facility on Sunday the seventh of January. Do come along and meet us and have a look at the facility if you like. My phone number is below.
