Bacteria are INCREDIBLY resiliant, and many species are capable of surviving freezing naturlaly without any difficulty. In fact, bacteria are often shipped freeze-dried to save weight and maximise storability while minimizing the risk of contamination. : Have they been able to defrost an : ant ? Insects are highly variable in their response to freezing, with some adapted to it as part of their life cycle. A much more important question is how are the rabbit experiments going, which is quite well. We will, I'm quite certain, have operational organ-level vitrification to LN2 temepratures within 1 year of the colaberation between the two scientists who have the skill and technology to complete the work (as has already been done to -40C). The question that arises then is how uniform will the procedure be across organs and tissues? If a single protocol can be used on all tissues and organs, then reversible vitrification of whole organisms becomes a possibility in the immediate future. ---------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Ring around the neutron, | "OK, so he's not terribly fearsome.
