X-Message-Number: 6295 Date: 31 May 96 14:22:49 EDT From: Saul Kent <> Subject: Explosive Growth I agree with Bob Ettinger that explosive growth is likely in cryonics someday, but I disagree that we don't know how to advance the timing. I believe the way to advance the timing for explosive growth is to make major advances in research, which, in my opinion, should be our number one, number two, and number three priorities. In fact, my primary reason for believing that we should focus some of our attention on membership growth is the possibility that some of these new members may donate or invest substantial money for research. When adequate advances in research have been made and it is clear that there is an ongoing program which is leading to perfected suspended animation, I believe the kind of explosive growth we're talking about can be pushed forward dramatically. I expect to be one of the main pushers. I agree with Ettinger that the problems of success could be worse than the problems of failure, but that's only in the short run. In the long run, the price of failure is the worst possible outcome...the prospect of spending the greater part of eternity dead. Unfortunately, many of us don't have a lot of time to fiddle. We're already burning and fast! ---Saul Kent Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6295
