X-Message-Number: 6549 Date: 17 Jul 96 10:57:09 EDT From: Saul Kent <> Subject: Prometheus Project Meetings I believe that one of the most important tasks required to push The Prometheus Project forward is a well-planned, regular series of meetings to inform cryonicists in the U.S., Canada and abroad about The Project and to give them the opportunity to participate in it if they wish to. For this to work well, I believe, two things are needed: 1. Someone needs to be in charge of scheduling the meetings, scheduling the speakers at the meetings, and informing people about them in an appropriate fashion. This is a big job and will need the cooperation of a number of people, but one person should be in charge. Paul Wakfer has already made it clear that it will be difficult for him to take on this responsibility. I can't accept the responsibility either, although I will certainly help anyone who does take charge. 2. The cooperation of the cryonics organizations in informing their members about these meetings. I've mentioned this several times in the past, but I've done so because I believe it is extremely important. Without the cooperation of the cryonics organizations, it will be difficult to inform many cryonicists about The Project and some of those who hear about it may be reluctant to participate because of the reluctance of their organization to inform them about it. I'd like to see the leaders of the cryonics organizations focus first and foremost on this issue. I'd love to see the cryonics organizations invest in The Project, but that is less important, in my opinion, than helping to inform the cryonics community about The Project. Over the next year or two, I'd like to see well organized, well-planned meetings in every city in which there are a significant number of cryonicists. The value of these meetings will not only be to educate non-pledgers about The Project, but also to enable pledgers to get together to share ideas and discuss issues relevant to The Project. ---Saul Kent Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6549
