Subject: Prometheus in the Immortalist

As Bob Ettinger had told me would be the case, there is information about the
Prometheus Project in the May/June issue of the "Immortalist" which I just
received in the mail. Here is what that issue contains and does not contain
about the Project:

1. The original July 4th description of the Project (at which time the total
pledged was $102K/yr) has been printed. But it has been edited and has had
blocks of text changed around, without my permission. The effects of these
changes are, in the opinion of its author, that it has less promotional
impact and that it appears disorganized.

2. Printed immediately after the edited Prometheus Project description are
Mr. Ettinger's CryoNet criticisms from messages #6464 on July 8, #6523 & 6525
on July 15.

3. None of my or anyone else's rebuttals to Mr. Ettinger's criticisms has
been included even though many of these rebuttals occurred before July 15.

4. Even though by July 15 (the date of Mr. Ettinger's last included critical
message) the pledge total was up to $140K and much other important additional
Prometheus Project information had been published on Cryonet, none of it was
included. In fact, I received no request for the latest factually correct and
up-to-date Prometheus information.

I reported these observations to Mr. Ettinger and received the following
reply:

>As far as editing without permission is concerned, we always reserve the
>right to do that, with material intended for public dissemination, as yours
>was. We label the material as edited or abridged if that is the case; and
>your e-mail address was included for anyone who wanted more information.
>
>As for reducing the promotional impact, we have no duty to maintain the
>intended promotional impact.
>
>As for the amount of material included and the updating etc., we have
>constraints of time and personnel etc. Unfortunately, we are often behind or
>incomplete in our coverages, including our coverages of our own activities.
>
>We plan to continue mentions of Prometheus in future issues, and of course
>will continue to use our judgment as to the extent and manner of coverage.

My return answer was as follows:

I am sorry that I have to say so, but I find your reply unacceptable. If in
future issues you cannot publish my writing unedited or only edited with my
permission, and if you cannot publish the *complete* thread of related
messages concerning some discussion of the Prometheus Project (at least up to
the closing date of the "Immortalist" issue) instead of only those messages
written by yourself, then please *do not publish anything at all*. So that
there is no misunderstanding in future, I categorically *do not* give you
permission to *edit and publish* (without my permission) anything which I
write and if you do so I will consider such action to be highly unethical.

I leave it to all readers to judge the facts which I have reported here, or
to read the "Immortalist" and form your own opinions. For your information,
Mae Ettinger is the editor of the "Immortalist" and she may be reached at:
 or (602) 941-5591 or 3326 N. 81 St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

Bob Ettinger is President of the Immortalist Society which publishes the
"Immortalist" and he may be reached at the same addresses.
