He was not. Before Leary was accepted, Alcor solicited and received pledges from members like me to help pay for his cryopreservation. Counting these pledges, Leary was fully funded. By this same standard (if this is the standard we agree on), then CryoCare's discount to Timothy Leary was $1000-- our cryopreservation administration fee, which we waived. The remainder of Leary's funding was covered by donations of money and services that had been pledged by numerous people. Most importantly, there was absolutely NO shortfall in his long-term funding. It would have been the same as any other CryoCare patient. That's not to say that we weren't going to try and benefit from the case as much as possible. (That was, after all, the original intent expressed even by Alcor when my pledge was solicited back in 1988.) As matters turned out, both Alcor and CryoCare made a serious error in bending over backwards to accomodate Timothy Leary. That error is: NEVER TRY TO FREEZE SOMEONE FOR THE SAKE OF WHO THEY ARE, INSTEAD OF WHAT THEY WANT. *************************************************************************** Brian Wowk CryoCare Foundation 1-800-TOP-CARE President Human Cryopreservation Services http://www.cryocare.org/cryocare/ Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6818
