Subject: Prometheus: Alcor/CI/Visser Announcement

Bob Ettinger has now made it clear in CryoNet Message #6873, that the
leadership of both Alcor and CI wish to "compete" with the Prometheus
Project, a Project which has been forthrightly non-partisan from its
beginning, and which they were both sincerely invited to take part in. It is
good to have things out in the open, and at last, know where we stand in
relationship to each other. The announcement is doubly welcome because it
puts the focus of this forum back to research where it belongs.

However, the Prometheus Project is, and will remain a non-partisan
project of cryonics and life-extension *individuals*. We have no desire or
purpose in any "competition" with any cryonics organizations. As stated
before, the Prometheus Project is, and will remain open to all scientific
approaches to the achievement of first reversible brain cryopreservation and
next whole-body Suspended Animation, including the "Visser method". Let me
remind readers that no arrangement need be made with Alcor/CI/Visser or
anyone else, in order for the Prometheus Project to fully use her methods, or
any others for *research* purposes. We welcome further information about Ms.
Visser's research and any additional research that she does, with or without
the support of cryonics organizations.

At the same time, we wish to make it clear that without detailed
information about what she has (and is) doing, we cannot assess her
accomplishments or plans. Because of this lack of information on the "Visser
method", and the much more fully published and unpublished information from a
highly credentialed cryobiologist concerning the current state of
vitrification research, the weight of scientific evidence and credibility
still compels us to treat vitrification as the prime candidate for the
scientific method of the Prometheus Project. We remain completely open to
change if/when more complete information on the "Visser method" is
forthcoming and when it is shown to be extendable to both large organs and
those with different cell types.

We encourage Visser/Alcor/CI to reveal the details of their research
plans so that we and others may assess their value. What has been given so
far is inadequate to form either a scientific, or business opinion of its
overall value.
