However, concerning the statement: >CI/Alcor will do their research, with or without your donations. >When you are asked for contributions, I don't believe this is to enrich >any one, but merely a plea to help speed up testing/refining/adapting >an available technology. Once donations exceed $20,000 Alcor will in fact pay 25% of subsequent funds raised to staff members as a commission. While I know nobody at Alcor is rich, or expects to get rich by fundraising, I believe this practice is innappropriate. This past summer you endorsed Steve Farmer in his allegations across three Internet newsgroups that I was insincere in my interest in cryonics, and that I would benefit financially from the Prometheus Project (which was untrue). I think it's clear from that exchange that we all agree money raised in the name of research should go to research. I urge you to join me in asking that Alcor ammend its policy for paying commissions from donated funds, and instead pay its fundraisers either flat salary or contributions directed by donors for the specific purpose of fundraising. Since we've had our differences in the past, I want to make clear that this is not "sour grapes". I merely ask that the same ethical standards that have been expected of me are met by others, and that cryonics fundraising does not in any way make itself vulnerable to claims that it is a "scam" motivated by greed. Given the controversial nature of cryonics, it is imperative that such guidelines be followed. *************************************************************************** Brian Wowk CryoCare Foundation 1-800-TOP-CARE President Human Cryopreservation Services http://www.cryocare.org/cryocare/ Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=6949
