The following report is from Lynda Cracknell, President of the Northern
Territory Voluntary Euthanasia Society.

Today (Sunday 27 Oct) the Northern Territory parliament presented a formal
'Remonstrance' to both houses of the federal parliament. The ancient and
little used 'Remonstrance' was reportedly signed by ALL MEMBERS of the
Northern Territory parliament and called on the federal parliament to
respect the rights of Territorians to manage their own affairs. The
presentation of the Remonstrance was carried out by the speaker of the NT
Parliament, accompanied by other parliamentarians and attendants of the
parliament, all in full regalia. While the Remonstrance has no legal
standing, it was a widely televised and reported media event, unlikely to go
unnoticed or unregarded by federal politicians who, however unwillingly, are
now obliged to consider the issues not only of voluntary euthanasia, but
also the rights of Territory residents.
