X-Message-Number: 7188 Date: Thu, 21 Nov 1996 11:55:26 -0500 (EST) From: Kelly Anne Moy <> Subject: number of cryonicists I think it is potentially threatenting to the survival of cryonicists if the number of cryonicists increases significantly (exceeding perhaps 10000). We must bear in mind that in the future if technology is ever good enough to revive cryonicists, we are posed with the problem of there being too many people to revive from suspension. Regardless of how much wealth a future society can create, it worries me that the people in the future may want to 'give up' on reviving people. Even if the technology can revive patients from suspension, much rehab will be needed; that is in order for one to adjust to the changes that have been made over the past 100+ years. The same thing that happened to the many frozen embryos who thawed because there were just too many of them, is very likely to happen to us cryonicists if cryonics ever goes mainstream. I feel the technology which will be used to revive cryonics patients is going to develop regardless of efforts to desperately find new cryonics members. Of course prometheus project needs much more support. Also consider that government may someday try to regulate the means of individuals trying extend their lifespans due to overpopulation, limited space. In that case it would be best for cryonics to remain small and relatively sheltered from the public. I think that in general cryonicists have great expectations for technology but are perhaps not skeptical enough when it comes to a future society or government which may not be as understanding as hoped.
