"One way to increase interest in cryonics"

Date sent: 20-NOV-1996 12:23:33

>Cryonic supporters generally create the impression that they are egoistic.

It is easy to argue a measure of egotism even into the most altruistic
deeds: A mother who sacrifices her life for her child may be charged with
wanting to secure a love obligation. Even Mother Theresa might be accused
of wanting to secure a prominent position in the eternal 'hereafter'.
Although, I do believe, that she simply tallies up her own sacrfice, pain
and discomfort against the enormous amount of relief she brings to countless
others and comes to the conclusion, that she simply cannot quit.

Speaking strictly for myself now, I wish to declare, that I do not care one
whit about neuropreserving my unique experiences, unless I can be there to
watch the holo (frankly I do not think anybody else would bother to watch
it). I want to declare, that I am unequivocably and unabashedly
egotistical. To me egotism is closely related to greed (see my signature).
If I build a bridge, so that *I* can cross the stream more comfortably, then
many others may also cross in comfort.

A cyber-gravestone to contain my deepest most privat thoughts? (Shudder) -
no, thanks.

But this discussion should really go to alt.philosophy.debate or some such
board. When I saw your subject line, I was rather hoping for a positive,
constructive contribution to increasing the cryonics community. :-(

Greed is a very positive motivating force. Without it (the desire to
possess) man would still not have captured the fire, and would probably
still be swinging from the trees in some of the warmer regions of this globe.
