This discussion started with Joe Strout's assertion, that he would be 
quite content with being 'downloaded'  into an artificial body. I am not 
sure how you would propose to accomplish 'adjusting' the endocrine 
system, if it weren't there, and even if you had it, how could it impact 
on a bunch of nano-transistors.

As for 'easily controllable emotional  variables', I content, that to 
control anything but criminal behavior is - well, criminal.  If I am 
revived into a world, where all decision making is based entirely on 
rationale and logic, I'll head right back into the dewar. 

 (-: Just imagine how dull these postings would be if they were all 
governed by completely unemotional intellects. :-)
