Dated: Thursday 16 January 16/97 (10:45am AEDT) NITSCHKE SAYS HE'S UNLIKELY TO TAKE ON MORE PATIENTS Voluntary euthanasia campaigner Phillip Nitschke says he'd be unwise to take on any more patients requesting assisted deaths in the Northern Terrritory. Dr Nitschke says it's been an exhausting experience obtaining the required approvals for the first two patients to use the Territory Right To Die law, Rod Dent and Janet Mills. He says he has four more terminally ill patients wanting to access the legislation. Dr Nitschke says with the forthcoming Senate debate on the Andrews Bill which seeks to overturn assisted deaths, he's unlikely to take on more such patients. Dated: Thursday January 16/997 (12:34pm AEDT) SENATOR RULES OUT EARLY VOTE ON EUTHANASIA ISSUE A Northern Territory Senator says the time frame for the Senate vote on the anti-euthanasia bill is more likely to be extended...rather than hastened. Bob Collins was responding to calls by voluntary euthanasia supporter Dr Phillip Nitschke for the Senate NOT to speed up its vote, following newspaper reports suggesting there's pressure for an early vote. Senator Collins says with the Senate Committee investigating the issue yet to report back, an early vote is out of the question. Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=7522
