Most of my experience is with insect cell lines. This I can suggest: 
You will have to freeze different batches of cells under different 
conditions until you succeed. There are lines of thought on freezing 
cells: 1) Immediately in LN. 2) 1hr at -70 C then in LN. The latter does 
damage some cells because DMSO contains toxic by-products. You probably 
can store cells at -20 C if you use very pure DMSO (and very expensive).
You will find that such DMSO is sold by cell culture reagent providers 
and not Merck or Sigma.
