WORLD'S FIRST EUTHANASIA LAW COULD BE KILLED BY AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT

(Reuters) The world's only voluntary euthanasia law is looking terminally
ill. Both supporters and opponents of euthanasia believe the law will be
killed off by Australia's parliament within the next two weeks. Debate on a
private member's bill aimed at overturning the law begins in the upper house
Senate Tuesday. A final conscience vote is expected a few days after that.
Politicians in the lower house have already voted overwhelmingly to repeal
the outback Northern Territory's euthanasia law, which came into effect in
July 1996 and has since seen four people die.
