Subject: Prometheus Pledge

To CryoNet
From Steve Bridge
April 14, 1997

During the past three months, being away from Alcor and more able to
view my four years as President objectively, I have been realizing
that I did not do enough to promote cryonics research. I will try to
do more of that in my position as Alcor Director and Chairman of the
Board.

However, I need to take a personal step now. Beginning in 1998, I
will be donating $1,000 per year to Alcor research. And I am now
making a pledge of $1,000 per year to the Prometheus Project.
Frankly, at my current start-back salary at the library and with the
accumulated debts of the last four years (not to mention an upcoming
marriage), I can't afford to make these commitments in 1997.
However, I anticipate that I am likely to move up into a higher-paid
library position later this year.

I am making the pledge to Prometheus, because I don't like having all
of my eggs in one basket. I don't even like having only 3 baskets
(with Cryonics Institute) to choose from! But this is a place to
start. Prometheus will have different research directions than Alcor
will. I think many approaches will be necessary for us to make true
progress.

Many other cryonicists are in a position to do more and have not.
Research is the only way we are going to get better at cryonics and
the only way we are going to get to the next step of growth. We are
already the *easily* convinced members of Western society. The next
step up requires science. Please be part of the answer.
