At this point I am taking all the survival numbers with a grain of
salt. Any antiaging supplement will have to prove itself by consistently
increasing late life survival in several trials before I would believe
that it is truly effective. However having said that I am willing to
engage in a little number fudging here to illustrate why paprika, anise,
malt and activated charcoal are particularly interesting to me. I have
introduced another column listing the percentage survival of DAY 48
relative to the DAY 17 census. I am assuming that all mortality prior to
the DAY 17 census is due exclusively to pathogens and so it is the
subsequent percentage survival that would be more indicative of any
 putative antiaging effect.
I have corrected the DAY 17 census of anise, as I believe the low 45%
survival was caused by my forgeting to include the "1" in "15" when
tabulating the count in my workbook. Also the 2 extra flies in the kelp
bottle have been deleted, since it is apparent that they are recently
 hatched, despite the taurine larvicide.
The percentage survival after the first census shortlists paprika
(42%), anise (27%), malt (22%) and activated charcoal (17%) as being the
best bets for antiaging supplements from this batch. I am currently
testing paprika again in the 4'th run. The 5'th run will also test anise,
malt and activated charcoal again as well.
Although rosehips maintained the same survival of 6% in both the DAY
36 and DAY 48 census, this means that only 1 fly managed to stagger
through this time period. I do not regard this as statistically
 significant.
