X-Message-Number: 8430 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: To Mr. Brian Romley and others Date: Fri, 1 Aug 1997 00:33:38 -0700 (PDT) Hi! The blunt answer to your statement is that you are quite wrong. The changes to a single neuron resulting from LTP are very likely to be quite labile. NO, I am not a researcher in the field, but everything I have read about the subject in the scientific literature says that LTP is a stage in the formation of long term memory, not long term memory itself. LTP has been shown, in some cases, to last for several weeks, but hardly for years. If you wish to discuss this issue with me at length, you can reach me by email at My telephone number is (415) 726-2251, soon to become (it's the phone co, not me!) (650) 726-2251. I'm not claiming that this message is a refutation of what you said. And if you wish to go on believing that what you said is correct, that's your problem, not mine. But I would be very happy to discuss this issue with you in detail and privately. Best wishes and long long life, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=8430
