To Kevin Spoering: the original cryoprotectants were found by testing animals that already resisted cold. Glycerol, in particular. However their effect is much more complex than simply giving a nonresistant animal the drug; moreover, for long term preservation (not just a season, but for hundreds of years) we'll need much lower temperature, no matter what we do (short of storing ourselves in a computer). No natural treatment for multicelled animals such as mammals allows them to survive such temperatures. Long long life, Thomas Donaldson PS: If you're seriously interested in it you might check out cryoprotection and cryonics on the net.
