I would like to clear up one matter in Fred's posting.

Talking about Life Memberships, Fred said:

snip

>From the first approvals of using funds from the Dick Jones' endowment
>accounts for operating expenses, at which time I was neither a
>Director or Officer of Alcor, this approach to "underwriting growth"
>was part of an accepted management philosophy in Alcor. Dave Pizer
>(as Treasurer) was then in charge of this.

Fred admits he was neither a Director of Officer so I can see how he could
have made this error. Saying that "I was in charge of this" might give the
wrong impression. I was treasurer at the time, but the board voted to spend
down the Dick Jones money to underwrite the growth, over my objections. It
was hoped by the board that as the Jones income became less over the years,
the membership dues income would be large enough to make up the difference.

The first year this was adopted, I was the only director who strongly
opposed this, and the only director to vote against it.

Although I opposed this plan (put forth by Carlos who was president at the
time), one could argue that Alcor would still be much smaller if the board
had not supported his plan. I just don't know how we can tell for sure.

I have also opposed Life Memberships and would have prefered Alcor to do
more fundraising instead.

Sincerely,

Dave Pizer
