X-Message-Number: 8797 Date: Mon, 17 Nov 97 16:53:05 From: linda <> Subject: A New Dimension In CryoFeasting CryoFeast(s) 1997 A New Dimension In CryoFeasting by Fred Chamberlain ("Preprinted" from the November issue of The Phoenix [You saw it here, first!]) This December, Alcor Members will experience a new dimension in Life Celebration, thanks to the efforts of Natasha Vita More. Until last year, CryoFeasts (a term invented by Natasha and Steve Bridge to replace the original Turkey Roasts Alcor previously held) only took place in Southern California. In 1996, the first out of So. Cal. CryoFeast ever was held at the home of Tim and Ai Ling (now Niki) Freeman, in Northern California. It was a great success. This year, it's back to Southern California once more, for the main CryoFeast, (note the word main), but there's an important difference. Natasha, who will be hosting that event, suggested that each regional or local group in Alcor might want to hold a satellite CryoFeast of its own, in whatever style it might choose, on the same night. In the past, those who didn't live near Southern California had to come there to participate. Natasha's idea was to encourage Alcor Members everywhere to celebrate the event. The idea has caught on like wildfire, with the Boston Group especially. From the email flowing past my screen, it sounds like a move is on to teleconnect some of the parties, with a virtual CryoFeast (in essence) taking place. Not all the groups will be able to cook up that level of technolog this year, of course, so this is a group by group experiment. Check with Natasha (see the announcement at the right) for more information about this The Boston Group has already staked out the territory for next year's main CryoFeast, and we hope that succeeding years will see this rotate from area to area, with more and more connectivity of a kind enabling Alcor Members to interact with each wherever they are, on some evening in early December each year. Traditionally, CryoFeasts have been on the first sunday in December. Why? Because that's the day the Alcor Board would have met for a formal Board meeting. Long ago it was decided that for the holiday season, a big potluck would be a better way to spend the day "Why do it on Sunday night?" Natasha said. "It doesn't have to be on the day you don't plan to hold a Board meeting! Let's do it on a Saturday evening instead!" Thats' why it's on the first Saturday in December, vs. the first Sunday (as in the past). When you think about it, if someone wanted to fly across the country to attend a special Alcor event, Saturday is a lot easier than Sunday anyway. Who want's to be flying home on Sunday night? Not any of us out here in Arizona! If any Alcor Members do want to travel to be at the main CryoFeast, or any of the satellite events, this makes it a lot easier. Although she hasn't yet made a commitment to do so, we hope that Natasha will volunteer (next year) to either take on the task of coordinating CryoFeasts in other areas, or at least assisting the main CryoFeast group with her advice. We urge any of you who think you might be able to attend one of the CryoFeasts to check on what's happening with Natasha (). Don't miss out!
