X-Message-Number: 9004 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: An.Announcement Date: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 00:28:36 -0800 (PST) HI everyone! As some of you know, I will be leaving for Australia in April of this year. However I have a few things to say about what might be done until then as a means to save the basic aims of Prometheus. First of all, there is an incorporated, nonprofit society which can be used to receive donations. It is called the Institute for Neural Cryobiology, and remains in existence. I am happy to transfer officership of this organization to any person(s) interested in using it to continue working towards the aims of Prometheus (at a minimum, whole brain cryopreservation with none of minimal damage). I am also happy to work with anyone who will become such an officer. I will also point out that ALL the work needed so that INC (Institute for Neural Cryobiology) can accept tax-deductible donations has been done already. (Unfortunately, Paul may mess up your possible tax deduction for 1997 by giving your donation back to you. If anyone on Cryonet expresses an interest, I'm happy to ask about whether a donation to INC of that money would preserve its deductible status. Yes, in other cases it may, but we'd need to know about this one). Basically this setup might be used to become a branch of 21st Century Medicine, unless someone else steps in as a strong leader. I do not intend to cease my activity in cryonics when I go to Australia --- very much the opposite. However it may be hard to deal with the issues involved with carrying out Prometheus from that distance, even with email. I am more than happy to volunteer to do whatever is necessary and possible for Prometheus to continue so long as I remain in the US, and whatever I can do later also. I am eager to hear suggestions, replies, criticism, whatever. For many years cryonics has badly needed more research. It would be much more than a pity if personalities remained so much an issue that we fail to do that research; WE are the only ones who will fund it, and WE are the only ones who will directly or indirectly do it. Best to all, and long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=9004
