Hi all:

I just saw part of a very interesting show on "The Learning
Channel" (no idea, which network, - I am not up on those TV
things). The title of the show was "Ultrascience" and it
reported on some research on interaction of brain and computer.
The US Air Force is developing an interactive cockpit where the
pilot controls the plane by *thinking*. It was most amazing how
a lady moved an aperture solely through interaction of electrons
affixed to her scull, which picked up electronic signals from the
brain, with a computer which controlled the large aperture, which
simulated the moving parts involved in controlling the flight of
an aircraft.

Another cut of the same show reported on work by a Professor Ted
Berger (sp?) in one of the Californian universities, who worked
with cultures of tissue from the hippocampus. The neurons
contained in the growing culture gravitated toward electrodes,
which in this case were computer chips, and connected with them
forming an integrated, interactive network.

I unfortunately missed a whole lot of the show. My wife called
me, to draw my attention to it, in the middle of it, I had my
wrong glasses on, so I missed even more fetching the right ones.

Best, (I could do) :)

Olaf
