Subject: Cryonet #9556 and 9557

As one of those aging cryonicists (Saul referred to), I empathize
highly with Saul's disappointment in the results of that 33 year
struggle.

To use Minsky's concept of mind, we all have differing agencies that
tend to give varying weightings to the multitude of reasons that
cryonics is still rejected almost universally. The lack of
scientific validity, or even a well funded research program, may not
be the overwhelmingly, absolutely, irrefutably, undeniably SINGLE most
important reason for the failure of the cryonics movement, but it is
undeniably ONE of the most important contributing factors.

I hope that participants in this discussion won't just focus on the
question of whether or not the need for research is THE single most
important factor. It is far too important a factor to be lost in the dust
of an endless argument over the weighting of various factors.

The support of research, itself, has more than one factor involved.
Money is critical. No argument. But we also have a shortage of
knowledgeable and experienced researchers who are willing to work in
the area of producing better cryoprotection methods. Right now, those
researchers have too much of their research time interrupted by the
need to perform cryonics rescue and suspension procedures.

A new for-profit organization (being created through the joint efforts
of Alcor and CryoCare members) is being created to utilize the
improved methods being developed by these researchers, and then make
these services available to cryonics organizations. That new
corporation is called BioTransport, Inc.

By supporting the capitalization of this new corporation, and
therefore its success, cryonicists will also be helping to keep the
researchers focused on what they do best: the research that is so
critical to saving all our lives. Details will be forthcoming over
the next several months as BioTransport progresses.

Boundless life,
