I have the following comments: 1. About memes: LL Cavalli-Sforza has tried hardest to work out, not memes, but a systematic method, based on biological evolutionary theory, to understand spread of ideas. I too find the notion of memes not wrong but insubstantial. 2. About freezing damage [msg #95]. (Everybody may already know this). ALCOR has published an extensive bibliography on the specific issues of cryobiology raised by cryonics. Anyone who wants to argue the point, or even who is scientifically curious about the damage which IS done, should send to them and get a copy. Lots of references, with discussion. [ (714) 736-1703 or (800) 367-2228 - KQB ] The conclusion pointed to by this bibliography is that the people quoted by David Stodolsky don't know their arse from a hole in the ground. 3. No insurance scheme is currently possible to deal with risks because of the law against perpetuities. I understand that Liechtenstein (or maybe Luxembourg) has a form of trust which can be used to defeat that law. If we are seriously concerned that is the first point to deal with. -- Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=97
