I think the one thing that would enable cryonics to "take off"
would be the successful re-animation of a long-term frozen
"suspendee". It is the apparent impossibility of reversing
the freezing process that makes people leery of cryonics.
When medicine advances to the point that a frozen body
can be resuscitated, if ever, then that problem will be solved,
and cryonics will be able to be seen as a standard medical
procedure, like anesthesia. Of course, by that time, almost any
conceivable cause of death short of brain disintegration will
be curable, so no-one (except perhaps astronauts?) will *need* cryonics!
