X-Message-Number: 9754 From: Subject: Catch-22 Date: Thu, 21 May 1998 22:26:46 EDT I think the one thing that would enable cryonics to "take off" would be the successful re-animation of a long-term frozen "suspendee". It is the apparent impossibility of reversing the freezing process that makes people leery of cryonics. When medicine advances to the point that a frozen body can be resuscitated, if ever, then that problem will be solved, and cryonics will be able to be seen as a standard medical procedure, like anesthesia. Of course, by that time, almost any conceivable cause of death short of brain disintegration will be curable, so no-one (except perhaps astronauts?) will *need* cryonics!
