This proves to be an overgeneralization (a sample of two is not large
enough). I have received mailings from an outfit called "20th Century
Castles" that specializes in brokering this sort of real estate. They have
everything from the sort of wreck you describe, to functioning houses and
business properties built in ex-silos.

And all silos for which I have read descriptions are on working roads
(usually state highways, IIRC). They didn't move that heavy equipment in
and out by helicopter; they needed fast, reliable ground access.

I'm not going to enter the larger discussion of whether patients SHOULD be
removed to a remote area . . . but if that was desired, an old missile silo
might indeed be an option.
