Subject: Affordability And Skepticism

Thomas Donaldson says (9891) that solving "the
problem of revival" requires that we find a method that not
only works, but is also "affordable".

That's true, but even a very expensive method of
crypreservation will be affordable to some, and the better our
methods of cryopreservation, the more we'll discover about
the chances of those cryopreserved with poorer, but more
affordable methods.

Moreover, a perfected method of cryopreservation
will lead to the kind of credibility that will make affordability a
societal issue as well as a private one.

Martin R. Olah (9892) is curious about how cryonics
is likely to be dealt with by "the skeptic community". He mentions
James ("The Amazing") Randi as one such skeptic. I discussed
cryonics with Randi on his radio show in New York about 1970 or
so. As I recall, Randi did not display any significant skepticism
about cryonics on that occasion. His questioning of me was quite
respectful, and he did not appear to share the negative opinions
of some of the callers to the show.
